• Why I'm not #plasticfree (now) • ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》When I started living a life that was better for the planet, my only focus was on plastic and waste. I would visit the bulk store and would buy non-organic produce if that meant it wasn’t wrapped in plastic. Basically what I was doing was I found one aspect of sustainability and focused on it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》But since the measures around COVID-19, I've made some choices that go against above statement. I bought items in plastic, since fresh produce was always out of stock in stores. I don't live near a bulk store so I create a lot of waste, cause right now, I value my health & wellbeing above my environmental values. Through this page, people have shown me the importance of organic produce, ethical fashion, plant based diets, and so much more. When circumstances change, there's no shame in letting one value take priority above another.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Since a while, I’m finding a sustainable lifestyle which fits within my system. Plastic is still a huge concern for me and I try to reduce what I can, but I have re-evaluated what sustainable living looks like as a whole. Especially now, since the current situation forces us to. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》For all of you with me in this #sustainable journey, the most important thing right now is your health and safety. If that means buying plastic packaged food or using single use products, just do what you need to feel safe. It's a huge privilege that in our normal lives we have the opportunity to worry about other issues than our security - which isn't the case for a lot of people. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》We can't do it all, but we can do what works for us right now. So don't beat yourself up about buying/using plastic and take this time to look into your regular daily habits and see what could be more sustainable. Support and look out for each other 🌱

• Vegan 'Chicken' Wings • ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》I have to admit, back in the old days, I was a big fan of chicken wings. When switching to being a vegetarian/vegan, that was something I didn't find a replacement for. And then, someone shared a picture of cauliflower wings and my life changed for the better (insert drama face)! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》That being said, these #vegan baked cauliflower wings are delicious in their own right. There’s no need to treat them as a substitute for the real thing, because they are the real thing. These #plantbased yums are definitely worth a shot, even if for no other reason than to be able to say you’ve tried them. And it might really amaze you how good they are! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》 Ingredients: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-1 large head cauliflower
-1/4 cup of almond meal
-1/4 tsp garlic powder
-120 ml non-milk of choice (I use almond milk)
-optional 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tblspn of paprika powder
- 1 tblspn of curry powder
- 2 tblspns of agave syrup
- 50gr of red curry paste
- pepper, salt & chili (ur choice)
- 2 tblspns of water ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Directions ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
:-Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line a large baking dish with parchment and place the cauliflower heads on it. Toss with a little oil over the heads. Then toss with the flour and garlic powder until evenly coated. If using the breadcrumbs for added crunch, finely crush them. - Bake for 15 minutes
- Mix the non-milk with the almond meal, herbs, syrup, curry paste and water. Dip the cauliflower heads richely in it.
- Bake for another 20 minutes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Now you have yourself a healthy snack or side-dish! The entire tray of wings is under 300 calories, and the cauliflower bites are also lower than chicken wings in fat, higher in fiber, and cholesterol free. 》Not really! Sure, I do wish I could go outside more or see everyone, but I'm feeling pretty grateful for this past week in #quarantine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Besides today's difficulties and insecurities, I think it's amazing to see how fast our planet recovers. Less cars are on the road, global CO2-emission has decreased drastically, the air above Chinese cities is the clearest since decades & waters are becoming clearer. This epidemic forces us to prioritize and work together. Let's hope we can keep that up! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

》Aangezien deze week de start zou zijn van de #vegan brunches & workshops en het door de maatregelen omtrent Corona niet kan doorgaan, hebben we een leuke oplossing: Vegan TAKEAWAY brunch in Antwerpen! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

• WASH YOUR HANDS & STAY CALM • ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》A sentence we all heard a lot the past few days. Although it's necessary we follow that line, it doesn't capture the real essence of this global outbreak. I have so many different thoughts regarding this crisis & most of them kinda contradict themselves. How we scream and shout about our crisis while every day actual wars keep on raging. How I'm kinda happy to slow down a bit but that I can't imagine how a lot of businesses and people must feel right now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Large epidemies like this really reveal how society is actually doing and tends to bare all flaws naked. Things like individualism, discrimination, egoism and so on tend to take control whenever large communities are feeling threatened. Fighting in supermarkets over supplies that aren't even scarce, is a great example of that. What about the weaker human being after you, who can't buy anything anymore?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Creating anti-social behaviour is the last thing we should do, ever. Empathy & solidarity are so valuable, more than ever now. Check in on people, help out, support small businesses, respect the rules and slow down. Focus on the positive and stay close to yourself. Try to be that kind of person. It's a great moment to think about our priorities and how we take everything for granted. I realise it's easier said than done, but do try to make the best out of this, or any, situation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》The world sure could use a break, but reality is that life doesn't stop, not for anyone. So, if you can, support the people around you who are struggling. Buy online from small/sustainable businesses, invest in gift cards or online courses, support the weaker and elder and most of all: don't put yourself or others in danger. It's not about you, it's about us. • Slowing down • ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》My new favorite part of the day (in the weekends) is the late mornings - I make a #vegan smoothiebowl like this one, eat in bed and read a book/magazine or watch some Netflix. And it feels gooood to have that little moment! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Just a couple of months ago, I lived in a world where I was too busy to think, I was always on the go, I would forget to eat and I was constantely in the rush of dealing with stuff. And a big part of me likes that busy lifestyle but since my body doesn't function as it should, I'm learning to slow down more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》Slowing down is also a valuable part of living more #ecoconscious, so recently I decided to put #selfcare first and rest my mind more. You don't need a lot of extra time to be more #sustainable, but it helps to plan & prepare everything. I felt I needed to do that more so avoiding plastic, bringing my reusables and doing research would be more of a priority - which it really is now! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
》So, if you can, try to unwind a bit sometimes. We often feel like the world moves too fast and that we need to follow that pace, but swimming against the current is so much more rewarding! Take a coffee, make some good food and think about a positive change you can make tomorrow.
