In Belgium and the Netherlands alone, up to 50 million toothbrushes are thrown away every year. They are not recycled but simply burned. The production of bamboo has a much smaller impact on the environment than plastic. Also, bamboo is fully compostable. In addition, it is naturally antibacterial.

The kids version has soft bristles. Toothbrushes for adults can be found here. As for the bristles, we deliberately choose a nylon version. They don't get bent easily and last the longest. We also tested compostable bristles, but they wore out after just a few brushes. So not really durable. Or they are made of pig bristles, something we don't support. Other brushes are made of bio-based plastic, such as castor oil. However, these are not compostable and complicate disposal.
